Boi-sa-bi (Bizu), commemorates the commencement of a New Year and it is the most important festival of the Chakmas.  The Jummo community of South Korea celebrates it every year with great joy, expressing solidarity and celebrating togetherness and unity in diversity. The New Year (Boi-sa-bi) celebration on 14th of April 2024, was graced by the presence of Mr. Douglas Disalvo, acting representative of the Korean mission to UNHCR, Kim Byeong-soo, the Mayor of Gimpo and many more dignitaries.

The celebration started off with a bamboo dance and followed many other amazing performances from different communities such as the Chakma, Tangchangya, Marma and other tribes. In between the performances, there was a welcome speech from the JPNK president Nikhil Chakma followed by speeches from many of the dignitaries.

We also had a series of very cute and beautiful performances outside the hall, from sons and daughters of different ages of the Jummas parents in South Korea. These performances happened simultaneously while refreshment and lunch were being served to our guests. It is noteworthy to mention that lunch was cooked by a fellow Jumma, Dangu Supanta Chakma and most of the cuisine was cooked in the jumma style.

JPNK expresses profound admiration and extends heartfelt thanks to all the dignitaries and guests for accepting the invitation and making the occasion such a grand success. We share our gratitude to all the donors as your support has made a big difference. A special thanks to Dangu Ronel Chakma, without whose strategizing and close monitoring in organizing the event, it could not have been such a success. A big shout out to all the volunteers for sticking to the plan. A lot of love to our Jumma women for flaunting and wearing those beautiful tradition attires. It was such a delight to the eye to see our guests wearing Phinon- Hadi and other traditional dresses.
